2025 Taiwan Geosciences Assembly (TGA)

2024/12/17

Information

Time: June 16-19, 2025

Venue: Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center, Hall 1, Floor 4-5

Sites: https://2025TGA.tcgu.org.tw

Conference Purpose:
Under the counter attacks from extreme climate and natural forces, our homeland and society are facing the increasing threats of natural disasters and becoming more prone to the climate change and hazardous weather. From the perspective of environmental boundaries, the island of Taiwan is located at the continental and oceanic crust, hot and cold air masses, and terrestrial and marine areas. Active tectonic movements and vivid interactions between air masses, water masses, and oceanic currents create abundant natural resources. However, the frequent interaction of environmental factors also results in many unusual nature hazards such as typhoons, earthquakes, landslides, and debris flows. with high population and rapid economic development in the island, it becomes extraordinary linked between human lives and natural environments. Therefore, the Taiwan area and surrounding areas undoubtedly provide excellent materials for scientific research. The Taiwan Geosciences Assembly (TGA) invites domestic and international experts and researchers from various disciplines of Earth sciences (including space science, atmospheric science, oceanography, geology, hydrology, geophysics, geography, and science education) to present and discuss their multi-disciplinary research results under the scope of “new frontier for our beautiful Earth”. By this joint conference, we hope to explore the tasks of the resilience between human and natural environments, further provoking the public and governments to value the topics of land use and environmental changes in order to achieve the goal of sustainable development on the Earth.

2019 Taiwan Geosciences Assembly (TGA)

2019/01/03

Information

Time: May 14-17, 2019

Purpose:
With the development of global economy and technology, urbanization rate and population density worldwide have gradually increased. The reduced capacity of natural buffer zones and over consumption of natural resources have not only resulted in environmental degradation, but also led to an extensive damage to both economy and natural environment. In view of this, countries around the world have begun to actively invest in the research and development of integrated interdisciplinary disaster prevention technology. In addition, the integration of network technologies, the establishment of rapid data and information transmission mechanisms to support disaster management decisions, and the establishment of global disaster information networks are becoming global trends.

Taiwan is vulnerable to typhoons. Over the past few decades, the counterattack from Mother Nature has resulted in tremendous loss of human lives and property. Therefore, issues relating to natural disaster prevention and the application of disaster management system have received critical attention. In 2019, we will have the 60th anniversary of the Eight-Seven Flood, the 20th anniversary of the 921 Earthquake and the 10th anniversary of the Typhoon Morakot. Experts and scholars from various disciplines of Earth sciences at home and abroad, including, Atmospheric Science, Geodesy, Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Hydrology, Oceanic Science, Space Science, science education, are going to gather in 2019 Taiwan Geosciences Assembly (TGA) to discuss about land use planning, environmental conservation, disaster prevention and environmental change. To achieve the goal of sustainable development, it is hoped that the discussions will help attracting public attention in Taiwan.
